Course Reflection

Reflect on the value of the course. Include both positive and negative aspects of your experience. What might you have done to improve your learning experience in the course? How might the University or your instructor provide additional support for your learning? Were there topics covered in this course that seem particularly relevant or irrelevant to your experiences and future?

Critical thinking is something that we all went in to this course thinking that we could do; however, it wasn’t even half way through the first chapter that we realized that we were still evolving in our critical thinking journey.  I though just asked the typical W questions was thinking critically; only, I was really off on that.  You have to dig deeper when thinking critically, you need to look at who the audience is, how they can apply this to their lives, give greater examples, and really know the subject.  This course has really made me re-evaluate how I look at things, how I think in general.  This is the first course that I have taken in the grad program for Leadership and feel that all students should start with this.  Since this program is still new and evolving, I feel like both my academic career and the program can grow together.

There were times when I was completing the assignments that the instructions were a little confusing; however, the professor went above and beyond with helping.  He was available via email whenever I needed to ask questions.  I’m not huge on the whole discussion board aspect of the class, but in every class there’s a part of it that we aren’t particular thrilled with.

With each of the modules covered, the course seemed to flow very nicely.  I felt that each module built on what was covered in the last, starting with critical thinking and ending with your research project. The critical thinking allowed you to learn the ins and outs on how to do so in a more in depth manner to ultimately end with a better project.  My project was the transition into the leadership position, and I felt that without the background knowledge of critical thinking, I wouldn’t have been able to complete the assignment the way I had.  All in all, this program was a very enlightening one that I’ll be able to take the knowledge gained and apply it to future courses.
